Among many other off-site SEO techniques there is forum posting and blogging, these are two very common ways to assist the SEO of your website and for some very good reasons. For a moment I would like to focus on blogging in particular, why you should do it and what it can do for your sites SEO and search engine indexing.
With blogging it is possible to take one of two approaches, and either can prove beneficial to your website. You can start and manage your own blog with regular updates and links to your site, or you can add comments and posts to other blogs relevant to your market and niche. No matter what approach you take you can use keyword optimized content, and have your posts and comments found by search engines and indexed – each with a link to your site.
Ok so you may be asking why blogging is different from article syndication and forum posting – this is mainly for reasons involved with the search engines. Many times a search engine will give priority to content on a blog than that of a website, so you may have a well optimized website but are being outranked by blogs and blog posts. Therefore by syndicating your content across these blogs and other blogs related to your site, including blogs managed by yourself you are placing links to your site among the higher ranked pages.
Some great sites for running your blogs from sites that include blogger.com and tumblr.com, but for SEO purposes I would always advise a WordPress blog, they tend to have a good credibility among search engines and are easy to add your comments and post syndication of your sites content to, but always keep your posts relevant to the original post that you are attaching it to. This is not just for the SEO purposes, but to respect the owner of the blog, and to encourage them to approve your content to be shown on their blog.
